Alex Basco Koch

About

Alex designs video environments for concerts, musicals, plays, films, and immersive installations. His work appears on Broadway, Off-Broadway, across the US, in Central and South America, Europe, and Japan.

His concert work includes three tours with Mariah Carey—the 2023 international Christmas arena tour, LA Pride, and Lovers & Friends—and two New Year’s Eve productions with Phish at Madison Square Garden. He created four hours of original video to play alongside the Magnetic Fields’ international tour 50 Song Memoir and released a dozen of the works as official music videos through Nonesuch Records.

Recent stage work includes The Jonathan Larson Project at the Orpheum Theatre, Space Dogs at MCC Theater, and The Orchard at Baryshnikov Arts Center, starring Mikhail Baryshnikov. His projection design for Dua Lipa’s musical performances on Saturday Night Live aired in May 2024.

Alex’s projection work was featured in two films that premiered at the Sundance Film Festival: Norman Lear: Just Another Version of You, directed by Academy Award–nominated filmmakers Heidi Ewing and Rachel Grady; and Miles Ahead, directed by and starring Don Cheadle. He co-directed Who Knows?, a short film mixing projection, puppetry, and live action, and served as director of photography and editor for the My America Too film series with director Kwame Kwei-Armah.

His Broadway credits include Be More Chill and Irena’s Vow, and he designed Be More Chill for its West End transfer at the Shaftesbury Theatre in London. He is nominated for multiple Drama Desk, Lortel, Outer Critics Circle, Hewes, Jeff, and New York Innovative Theatre Awards.

Alex was an Artistic Associate at the Young Vic in London (2020–2025), a member of IATSE local USA829, and founder of Ghost Corporeal.
